Left-leaning Floridians are probably not too enthused that the Republican Party is descending on Tampa to crown Mitt Romney as its official nominee in August. But don’t worry, you hippies — there’s now something for you to get excited about, too. The Daily Show has announced it’ll tape a week’s worth of shows in Tampa during the week of the Republican National Convention.
The show rarely tapes anything but “reports” outside of its New York City studios. This will be the first time the show is taped in Florida and, for that matter, the South.
“We are incredibly excited to spend a week in the beautiful city of Tampa,” Rory Albanese, executive producer of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, said in a statement. “We look forward to enjoying the beaches and the exciting nightlife, plus we assume this counts as a visit to our grandparents.”
The show will tape at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Ferguson Hall from Tuesday, August 28, through Friday, August 31. Tickets will be available only through thedailyshow.com if you’re thinking of taking a road trip. Of course, if you’re thinking of taking an even longer road trip, the show will also head to North Carolina for the Democratic National Convention in September.
