Bad news, Miami! Transit Lounge is closing at the end of June. Good news! Owners of the local live music haven have promised to open a new venue in downtown Miami called Avenue D this summer.

The news of Transit’s closure broke yesterday via the venue’s Facebook page. In the press release, owner William Edwards says, “I am deeply saddened that it has come down to this. We fought a good fight but the banks just aren’t lending and the landlords did the best they could but the writing is on the wall.”

Apparently, the building is facing foreclosure and the bank has notified it will take over in June. The release says the venue will operate normally until then with all scheduled shows to go on as planned. And at the end of June, there will be a farewell party featuring local bands.

“We hope to celebrate nearly a decade of Transit Lounge with the biggest events and parties that Transit has ever hosted and look forward to a thriving live music culture in Miami,” Edwards adds.
